Captain Richard Pagán
I was born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and was privileged to live in an area where I was able to perform an abundant amount of sailing mostly around the island itself, all the US and the British Virgin Islands. Other areas include, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, San Francisco, the entire east coast of the US and many more exotic areas and islands.
I have more than 40 years’ experience in all types of boating vessels including small boats with outboard, sail boats up to 65 feet, cruiser yachts up to 75 feet. At the present time I own many boats including a custom made 38’Albin Trawler, a sailboat, runabout ski boat and several rigid inflatable boats as part of my inventory of vessels..
During my voyages, I have experienced some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the world, while traveling up and down the East Coast, South America, and the Caribbean.
I moved to beautiful Wilmington, NC (New Hanover County) in 1989. “I love it and I am here to stay”.
While sailing the Carolinas for over 30 years, I have developed the local knowledge that is crucial for a successful charter business. Knowledgeable with the dos and don’ts, as well as where to go, and NOT to go.
In my expeditions in the North Carolina Coast, I have found secluded areas where the exotic birds migrate to, where the dolphins and their pups go to eat and play and located many exotic islands with breathtaking landscapes.
After moving to Wilmington, I have sharpened my seaman skills and knowledge by taking many classes at Cape Fear Community College, including all aspects of boat repair and maintenance, weather, charting/navigation, maritime safety, towing, search and rescue, and CPR/First Aid and more.
For over 6 years I was a lieutenant of the United States Power Squadron and received many merit marks. Their mission is to improve maritime safety and the enjoyment through classes in seamanship, and maritime laws. I headed the vessel safety program and have inspected several hundred vessels. During the years of inspecting vessels, I have been training boaters and other individuals in maritime safety and vessel maintenance. I have gotten to know all the local dock masters, commanders as well as service men/women with the local US Coast guard. I find this knowledge to be crucial if you are running a charter business in the case of needed assistance or emergencies. I am very familiar with their procedures. I take safety very seriously and I am always acquiring new knowledge.
As you could probably tell, I am very passionate about enjoying the boating lifestyle. The beauty and tranquility that the sea has to offer and that is why I decided to start sharing my experiences with others.
I am a licensed USCG Merchant Mariner Captain with many credentials. I purchased the Albin 38 Fast trawler, and spent 6 years completely restoring her from top to bottom. Hence giving birth to Stargazer as a redesigned, customized, solid, safe, comfortable, and practical beautiful sailing machine. With this vessel and all of the knowledge that I have acquired I have accomplished my dream to provide a unique boat charter service that includes custom cruises and farewell scattering of ashes at sea.
The only regret I have is that I wish that I would have shared more of these experiences earlier in my life with loved ones. Now I have the opportunity to bring friends and families together to experience the wonders the sea has to offer.
“LIFE IS GREAT, ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN”
